Spain
In contrast to Ireland, if you are flying to Spain, regardless of the country of origin, you must have one of the relevant documentation:
- A negative certificate or an EU Digital Covid Certificate
- A negative Covid test result
- A Covid certificate of recovery was issued within the last six months.
- If you do not possess an EU Digital Covid Cert or an equivalent, you must fill out a health control form before leaving the country.
- Once this is completed, you will be given a QR code, which you must present both at the time of boarding and then upon arrival in Spain.
The same is true if you travel by sea.
Portugal
Despite the fact that entry into Ireland is no longer required, all passengers traveling to Portugal must fill out a Passenger Locator Card prior to actual departure, and all tourists arriving in Portugal must present any of the following:
- European Digital Covid Certificate – valid evidence of full vaccination received at least 14 days but no more than 270 days before travel.
- Where passengers present a European Digital Covid Cert or similar valid proof of finally receiving a booster vaccine dose, no time limits apply.
- A Covid certificate of recovery was issued within the last six months.
- Valid proof of a COVID-19 negative test result.
- If you choose to have a PCR test, you must do so within 72 hours of your departure.
- Rapid Antigen tests must be taken in under 24 hours of departure, but only Rapid Antigen Tests from the European Union Health Committee’s approved list are permitted. Self-administered antigen tests at home will not be accepted.
- All of the above necessities do not apply to children under the age of 12.
- As Covid-19 infections as well as deaths continue to decline, Portugal will no longer require most people to wear face masks.
- Face masks will only be required in places where people are susceptible, such as hospitals and public transportation, according to Health Minister Marta Temido during a televised press conference following a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

To avoid long airport lines, it was announced on April 22 that British travelers will be treated the same as European citizens at Portuguese borders. Brits will be able to bypass the long lines that visitors from outside the EU must endure by using faster e-passport gates.
